Networking

Networking is the sharing of resources and information between multiple computers. The essential elements of a network are the following:

• No less than two individuals with data to trade
• A method for establishing contact between computers
• Rules and guidelines governing the contact between the computers

The three different types of computer networking are centralized (one mainframe computer has all information and computation capacity with terminals being used to remotely access the mainframe) distributed (many lesser computers acting in the place of a mainframe) and collaborative (a group of networked computers that not only share data but also processing power).
