Information
Technology
Information Technology is typically described as information
processing. However, being that this definition is vague, it is appropriate to illustrate
the meaning of information technology with some examples:
Managing computer networks
Building web pages
Marketing products on the Internet
Writing technical manuals
Operating business databases
Programming software applications
Providing technical support
Managing bookkeeping, accounts and budgets
Providing consultation regarding computer systems
Producing digital videos
Creating 3-D art
Information technology used to be the sovereign realm of the computer scientist but
increased demand for information technology aspects in today's offices and manufacturing
facilities has caused a sharp increase in the demand for workers who are skilled in the
field, whether or not they have degrees in computer science.
