MBA Curriculum requirements

Graduate program leading to MBA degree is offered in Business Administration. Students are required to complete graduate division courses (numbered 500-599).

Theses or Seminar

Student must choose between these two options: Complete four theses per program or attend a seminar twice a month for 6 hours each time to total 180 clock hours, to earn the 12 credit units.

Specialization Courses

Accounting MBA

The accounting specialization is a program of advanced accounting classes and is designed to prepare leaders to assume an important role in managing by developing or enhancing the financial management skills necessary to function effectively within public agencies, non-profit organizations or private businesses. The accounting specialization is designed to provide a balanced broad education and an in-depth understanding of the theoretical and practical concepts of accounting.

Finance MBA

The finance specialization is a program of advanced skills in corporate finance and investments. This program provides the opportunity for in-depth study of the most modern concepts, theories, analytic methods, and problem solving techniques, emphasizing the practical uses of these financial management principles in business, non-profit organizations, and government. Students develop or enhance the financial management skills necessary to make right decisions, to analyze the financial business activities, and manage financial risk.

Marketing MBA

The marketing specialization provides the student with critical marketing concepts, including alternate marketing channels, sales management, advertising and research, emerging approaches to consumer and dealer motivation, global customer management and relationship marketing. The M.B.A program combines a high-quality core curriculum with the Marketing specialization curriculum which is consistently updated. The student will be able to develop marketing communications and identify new marketing opportunities.

MBA Graduation Requirements

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

A total of 45 units with an overall Grade Point Average of 2.0 or better are required for the Master of Business Administration of which 24 units are General Business Studies; 12 units are derived from the theses or additional subject areas; and 9 units are from the specialization subjects.

A minimum of 87 percent of the total credit units must have been completed at Washington International University. The requirements are listed in the chart below and described in detail in the paragraphs that follows.

Graduation with Honors

Honors are based on the cumulative grade point average for performance at WIU. To be considered for honors, at least 25 percent of the total units must have been completed at Washington International University. Students who have a scholastic standing of 3.5 GPA and above are eligible to graduate with honors in the these categories:

Honors: 3.50-3.75 GPA
High Honors: 3.76-4.00 GPA
