Washington International University’s mission is to provide access to higher education opportunities through a variety of educational programs at undergraduate and graduate level for a diverse student body in a nontraditional format such is distance education. This enables the students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their professional goals for a life-long success.
Washington International University (WIU) is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in an interdisciplinary setting without limiting the student to a classroom. We offer you the finest distance learning resources available. Washington International University objectives are:
- To educate men and women who will contribute to economic and social well-being and to promote managerial skills, entrepreneurial spirit, and quality leadership in a real world setting.
- To develop an understanding of diversity of values, behavior and socio-economic backgrounds, and increase the capacity to manage different types of individuals in varying organizational and cultural settings.
- To improve problem-solving ability and critical thinking through the integration of judgment, knowledge, and the best available analytical techniques.
- To assist working adults in tailoring their academic programs, setting their own pace of study, and in meeting their career and goals.
Distance Education has been successfully implemented for more than one hundred years. It will give the theoretical knowledge require by the demanding field of business. Students who opt for this type of education are dedicated students who remained committed to objectives, and put in the effort to complete their studies.
Our Licensing
All of the Degree Programs offered by Washington International University have been reviewed, evaluated, and approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education for the State of California. Washington International University was awarded “Institutional Approval”. This is the highest educational status awarded by the State of California. To grant the award of “Institutional Approval”, the Bureau must conduct a qualitative review and assessment of each degree program offered by this institution.
State Approval means…
- Certification that an institution meets statutory standards for integrity, financial stability, and educational quality, including the offering of bonafide instruction by qualified faculty and the appropriate assessment of student’s achievement prior to, during, and at the end of its program.
- Issued only after the school is visited by a review team. Review teams for degree-granting schools consist of staff from the Bureau and peers educators and administrators who are experts in the subject matter of the school’s degree programs.
- A guarantee of consumer protection with legislated tuition refund formulas, and student tuition recovery funds available should the institution breach its contract with the students.
- Both license to operate and certification that an institution meets statutory requirements for operation.
- Administered by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, which serves as the state agency for approval and regulation of private postsecondary degree granting and vocational education schools in California.
Our Facility
Our facility is located in a second floor suite covering 2,200 square feet This facility houses the Dean’s Office, Accounting Office, Administration Office, Student Records Office, Computer Center, an examination or study room, Compliance Office, a library, the Student Affairs Office, and the Registration Office. This modern structure is located in the city of Encino, in the Encino business district on Ventura Boulevard. This area is vital to the San Fernando Valley community and economy. WIU is only 25 minutes from Los Angeles, and is easily reached by freeways and public transportation.
Study/Computer Center
For those students who reside in the geographical area of our offices, we have a study room and a computer center where students are always welcome to work at their own pace.
Library
The students and faculty can contact our specialized Librarian for assistance. Our library is constantly growing. The books are purchased on the recommendation from our students and teachers. Although the number of books and periodicals is limited, these materials reflect the interest of the school community.
The library contains approximately 2,000 volumes covering a full spectrum of subject areas such as general education courses: math, science, English, literature, history, and others. Also we have an extensive number of accounting, economics, business management, marketing, and finance law books. We continue to add to our growing library, to meet the need to have a larger comprehensive library to provide our students with access to excellent resources.
We also provide a service to students, faculty or staff, who request a book via telephone, fax, e-mail, or mail. We will ship the material to the student at no cost to the learner.
Due to the independent study nature of its programs, WIU requires students to utilize their nearest academic library. Students are encouraged to get library access to their local college and university libraries. WIU will reimburse the students up to $30.00 or we can work directly with the libraries regarding library membership fees.
WIU may provide copies of reference books at $5.00 for a 20-page document and a $10.00 deposit per WIU library loan and delivery. (Please refer to the schedule of fees for details). Also, we provide a library reference service where students can contact a Resource Specialist with their questions regarding the library and research. As another choice to those with Internet access, we offer links to a variety of online web sites where students can access electronic articles, indexes and journals, research assistance, and more.
