Transfer Credit RequestStudents requesting transfer credits must submit a written request along with official transcripts, university course catalog description, test scores (if available), and other pertinent course information (for example, syllabus, required reading, portfolio) at the time of registration. The Office of Admission and Records will evaluate the transferability of the credits. Evalutation of Transfer CreditsWhen a student is admitted, the Admissions and Records Officer will evaluate previous college work in relation to the requirements of WIU. All degree candidates will be issued a credit summary during the first semester of attendance. The admissions office will convert quarter units of credit transferred to the institution to semester units by multiplying the total of quarter units by two-thirds. Transfer credits should be submitted as part of the admission process. After it has been determined which courses will be accepted for transfer credits from another institution, the student's WIU transcript will reflect these courses. Then the standard program length will be shortened to reflect the transfer courses and the maximum time frame recalculated. Transferable courses are those designated for degree credits by the institution offering the courses. Credits may be granted only if the subject matter of courses is applicable to programs offered by WIU. Policy Regarding Credit for Experiential LearningWIU does not allow any credits for experiential learning. Course work completed at other accredited institutions, documented as non-collegiate courses and/or professional and experiential learning will NOT be accepted toward the satisfaction of the degree requirements. In view of the foregoing regulations, the student should notify the Office of Admissions and Records immediately of a change in the objective specified in the evaluation. While the evaluation for a student remains valid, the student is held responsible for complying with all changes in regulations and procedures, which appear in subsequent catalogs. Successful EnrollmentWashington International University will mail the first lesson and the initial correspondence material to the student within seven (7) days after the student’s admission. Academic AdvisorAcademic Advising is considered an integral part of a student’s academic experience. At the beginning of the first semester, all matriculated students are assigned an academic advisor, generally a faculty member in the student’s major. The academic advisor and the student will work together to evaluate the student’s educational goals. Advisors are available to guide and support students, but it is the responsibility of each student to be familiar with academic policies and programs and to assume responsibility for his or her academic program. At Washington International University, student success is important to us. This is why we have made it easy for you to contact us whenever you have a question or problem. Please refer to the “Contact Us” section for business hours and contact information. The concept of directed independent study is a shared responsibility between the prospective adult learner and our institution. Washington International University will assign a faculty advisor to each student. |
